Inspired by coachbuilders

The caseback of the Étape was not left to chance. Drawing inspiration from Art Deco architecture and the coachbuilt automobiles of the era, its pronounced fluting gives it a presence that belies its modest dimensions.

Secured by four individual screws and polished to complement the rest of the case, the caseback becomes an integral part of the design rather than simply its conclusion. Even when turned over, the Étape remains unmistakably Art Deco.
A quiet tribute to those who raced, and those who won.

Draping Jewellry

Inspired by the classic Beads of Rice bracelet, the Étape's fully polished bracelet uses evenly proportioned links to create an exceptionally supple construction. It drapes over the wrist like warm honey, following its contours while lending the watch the elegance of a finely made piece of jewellery.

A concealed butterfly clasp preserves the bracelet's uninterrupted lines, while the Monchard signature provides the finishing touch. Secure and comfortable, the clasp all but disappears once the watch is on the wrist.

The name is in the details

Étape is French for "step"—a fitting name for a watch whose design is defined by them. With Art Deco having its origins in France, a French name felt equally appropriate.

The case draws inspiration from the stepped, geometric forms of Art Deco and the ziggurat motifs so characteristic of the period. Two distinct tiers extend outward along the case sides, adding architectural depth and presence without making the watch appear unnecessarily broad.

Viewed in profile, those geometric steps are softened by a deliberate curvature that follows the wrist. The result is a case that feels both architectural and elegant—a distinctly Art Deco form shaped for comfortable wear.
